The salmon are on the verge of going extinct, due to salmon farms crowding the mouth of the Fraser river. Salmon farms are filled with filth and disease, and this spreads to the wild salmon smolts, who need to "nest" between the Fraser and the Pacific Ocean, until they get used to the salt water. They die before they get out to the deep ocean waters, because they are too small to survive. Salmon come back every four years, to rebuild their populations...
